Choir director, Professor of Musical Arts, and a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków. Since 1984, Lidia Matynian has led a class in choral conducting. In 1999–2019, she held the posts of Vice-Dean, Dean, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, and Director of the Institute of Choral Conducting, Music Education, and Eurhythmics.
For nearly thirty years, she worked with an academic choir, preparing performances of vocal-instrumental works and giving concerts in Poland and abroad. She participated in seminars of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart led by Helmuth Rilling and devoted to the music of J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, and K. Penderecki.
Since 1993, she has led the Boys’ Choir of the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Kraków. The ensemble’s repertoire includes the most important vocal-instrumental works. The choir has also taken part in numerous world premières, including works by Penderecki (Credo, Benedictus). It has worked with leading orchestras and the Kraków Opera, and has participated in archival and film-music recordings.
Artistic achievements have won Lidia Matynian the Gold Cross of Merit, the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture, and the Order of the Smile (2022).
