Alexander Humala studied choral and orchestral conducting at the Belarusian State Academy of Music and the Rotterdam Conservatory, later broadening his artistic horizons through masterclasses with Colin Metters, Yuri Simonov, Marin Alsop, Jorma Panula, and others.

At the start of his career, he worked as an assistant conductor with the NOSPR Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. He has served as the chief conductor of the Belarusian ensemble Capella Sonorus and as the artistic director of the Kraków Philharmonic. Encounters with mentors such as Péter Eötvös, Jerzy Maksymiuk, and Krzysztof Penderecki, as well as experience gained with orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, and the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra have been important milestones in his artistic development.

A winner of international competitions and scholarships, he has also worked as an assistant conductor to masters such as Lorin Maazel, Martin Brabbins, Christoph Eschenbach, and Stanisław Skrowaczewski.

Alexander Humala has appeared at international festivals and worked with leading soloists and composers. His discography includes a number of recordings, and his performances have been broadcast on radio and television, including Mezzo and ARTE.
