Barry Douglas marked the 30th anniversary of his victory at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition with complete cycles of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concertos, performed with the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin and the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast.
A highly sought-after recitalist and chamber musician, he has performed worldwide, from the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, and Wigmore Hall, and the Verbier Festival, to major concert halls of North America and Asia, including the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and the Shanghai Grand Theatre, as well as other cities in China.
Barry Douglas is an exclusive recording artist for Chandos. He has recently completed a six-album recording of the complete solo piano works of Brahms. His current recording projects focus on the solo piano music of Schubert and Tchaikovsky. Also for Chandos, he explores Irish folk music through his own arrangements, ranging from ancient melodies to works by contemporary songwriters.
In January 2021, Barry Douglas was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to music and community relations, as part of the New Year Honours. He was previously appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2002 New Year Honours for services to music.
