Founded in 1945, the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (SKO) combines tradition with innovation under Principal Conductor Thomas Zehetmair and Managing Director Markus Korselt. Its repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music and includes projects incorporating jazz and electronic elements. The orchestra gives around ninety concerts each year, including intercontinental tours, performing either as a 17-string ensemble or in expanded forces for Classical and Romantic works. From 2024 to 2027, SKO will perform and record all Beethoven symphonies.
SKO engages with digital formats such as virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics, and hologram concerts. In 2022, it became the first orchestra in Germany to switch entirely to digital sheet music on tablets. The orchestra is committed to sustainability, with objectives including climate neutrality, CO₂ reduction, and regional reforestation. Its education programme, SKOhr-Labor, focuses on work with young audiences.
In 2023, SKO founded its own record label and released four albums featuring works by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Schönberg, Schubert, Bartók, and John Adams.
