Schumann spent many years searching for a new approach to the piano concerto. He wanted to move away from the idea of the concerto as a virtuoso showcase, with the soloist set against the orchestra, and instead create a work in which piano and orchestra are equal partners, shaping the musical narrative together.
The soloist is Maxim Lando, a young American pianist acclaimed for his brilliance, energy and artistic flair. He has performed with leading ensembles including the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and his awards include the Vendôme Grand Prize and Third Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition.
Sinfonietta Cracovia is conducted by Jong-Jie Yin, winner of First Prize at the 11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors and one of the most exciting young conductors of his generation.
The performance recording will be available to watch on our YouTube channel until 20 July 2027.
